Using photography, video, and sound I explore understandings of public and private space. With a documentary approach structured around interaction, I am interested in the way that spontaneous acts and moments of unpolished creativity can open up conventional notions of space. In particular, my work addresses social changes brought on by the increasing visibility of homosexual identities in multiple spheres. Projects include audio recordings of myself soliciting “dirty” jokes from men in airports, a video in which domestic partners take turns videotaping each other performing a simple housekeeping task, and anonymous portraits of masked strangers.

Jason Hendrickson is an American artist living and working in Montréal. Currently completing his MFA at Concordia University, he received his BA from Dartmouth College. He is the 2006 recipient of the Stanley Mills Estate Fellowship. Hendrickson’s work has been exhibited at Projex-Mtl Galerie, The Andy Warhol Museum, 101 Gallery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Or Gallery in Vancouver.
