CHANTS DE LASSITUDE

Speaking to issues of loss, absence and a desire to escape, Chants de lassitude is an exhibition of recent works by Erika Kierulf. The photographic series I believe in this explores a process of renewal whereby the characters shelter or hide themselves from the viewers’ gaze. Visual obstructions consider our innate sense for seeking safe places. The installation It’s all the same to you, comprised of over 60 birdcages suspended from the ceiling, fills an adjacent room. The empty cages leave evidence of a solitary bird; perhaps even a couple, that once lived in the enclosures.
