I work primarily in printmaking, drawing and sculpture. With each medium I aim to create a fragment of some object seen, or event experienced. I start with the world; I look around at the beautiful shapes, the lines, the shadows, the textures, and un-make them in the studio. I abstract so that the name of the image or object is not immediately known which slows down the process of recognition. My goal is to create spacious objects that draw the viewer in to a new time signature and an experience of perception in motion.

Janita Wiersma is currently working on a Masters of Arts degree in the Special Individualized Program (SIP) at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Her research is focussed on the relationship between space and architecture, how space is produced, and how people interact with and imbue spaces with specific meaning. After obtaining a BFA from Mount Allison University Janita continued to exhibit her work in a number of galleries in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes. Her recent drawings and intaglio prints are small gestures of lines and shapes that explore space as a relational environment in transit.
