Does existence have an essential structure, does a universal and homogenous matrix, immutable through time and space, exist? Can we imagine such a structure? While those questions are far-reaching as much as fundamental, it is Marie-Eve Lajoie's desire to bring answers, although incomplete ones, that drives her artistic practice.
Using creation as an excuse, she strives to better understand the world and its relation. Also, she enjoys in revealing the structures that organize reality and those that modifies its comprehension - dichotomies, cycles, interlockings... The formal and metaphorical properties of those structures constitute the basis of her plastic vocabulary. In the same way, her work takes the shape of sculptures and installations that acknowledge her desire to seize the substance of things, to determine its outlines, its limits.

With the exhibition titled Et tout le reste qu'on ignore, Marie-Eve puts forward a sculptural environment that questions the tangible density of the reality - its concrete presence as well as its representation. Here, the notions of composition, edge, axis, and dimensions give shape to both the visible and the invisible
Recently, Marie-Eve Lajoie completed a bachelor in visual arts and media arts at UQÀM. She presently lives and works in the Montreal's region.
