MISSION

Mandate

Les Territoires is a non-profit organization with the mandate of enabling emerging artists and helping them develop their careers through exhibitions, mentoring activities, and cultural mediation. Having adopted a nomadic approach, it’s activities continue through partnerships and innovations in supporting emerging practices.

History

Les Territories was founded in 2008 by a group of young artist and administrators who wanted to support and nurture emerging artists’ work in Montreal. Les Territoires’ founding members are Josée Pedneault, Chih-Chien Wang, Saada El-Akhrass, Jessica Auer et Anne-Renée Hotte. From 2008 to 2015, Les Territoires held over 50 exhibitions and several visual arts events in its space located in the Belgo Building. In Fall 2016, we chose to close our gallery space and adopt a nomadic approach. We chose to focus on artistic creation, career development and new exhibitions practices, including digital initiatives. Our long term mentorship program our meetings and activities allow for a learning approach which combines artistic creation and career development. Over 10 years, our events, programs and activities have supported emerging artist by various means, increasing the visibility of their work to institutions and integrating them to the contemporary art world.
